Jacqueline Traide, a student at Oxford Brookes University, voluntarily agreed to be tortured, mistreated and injected while hundreds of people watched.
The reason?
Lush Cosmetics teamed up with Humane Society International and set up a demonstration to make a lasting
impact. The goal is to inspire people to sign a petition to ban animal testing for cosmetic products.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, a huge percentage of the animals used in testings are not a part of the official statistics and end up getting no protection under the Animal Welfare Act. During tests, animals are not given any kind of pain relief and are killed in brutal ways when the tests are over.
Traide was tortured in Lush’s Regent Street store, which is positioned on one of the UK’s busiest shopping streets. She was willing to be humiliated and tortured in order illustrate th the cruel realities of animal testing.
In the process, Trade withstood 10 hours of forced chemical exposures, oral forced feedings, water deprivation and more. Throughout the simulation, she didn’t utter a single word. She was bound and determined to take the torture as animals do – silently.
