The Nigerian Army have this Sunday evening moved men and machinery towards Gwoza in Borno State
to retake the last stronghold and headquarters of the Boko Haram islamic terror group, a military source has told the Nigerian Times.
Gwoza has become the next theater of warfare as the military last week dislodged the militants from Bama another Borno town. This is part of intensifying campaign by the Nigerian military assisted by its regional neighbours to rid the north east of the insurgents ahead of the March 28 elections.
There have been reports that Boko Haram fighters who fled Bama relocated to Gwoza with a promise to defend their capital with the last drop of their blood.
Senator Ali Ndume who represents the area in the senate told press men that “Boko Haram insurgents have in recent days been converging in Gwoza where they killed many male residents and chased women and children out of the town.”
Reclaiming the town will be a cap on the Military’s battle against the insurgents after the group’s leader Abubakar Shekau proclaimed Gwoza part of a caliphate since June 2014.
